Another Day, Another Derby

I had another derby bout last night. I won't tell you the score because it is too embarrassing. Let me just say, I think I personally scored 1/8th of our points, and I only jammed 3 times (of about 40 jams). But, I got to jam for the first time in a bout and it wasn't as scary as I thought, so I might just keep it up. A little, because I still think blocking is a lot more fun. Next bout is two weeks in Bakersfield and I am so stoked my folks are driving out to see it.

Here are a couple of quick pictures from the post-bout time. Obviously, one of me and my hubby. And the other is me and the large hole in my shirt that someone tore during the game...and that wasn't a penalty. Yah...seriously.

Paso Half Marathon

I survived the Paso Robles Wine Country Half Marathon today. I say survived, because I was a little nervous. I haven't run more than about 4 miles since the marathon in December, and with the wedding, honeymoon, and work, my running has been slacking off a great deal. But, I did pretty well considering and set a new PR of 2:09:16. I guess roller derby is keeping me in decent shape. Next race is Santa Barbara Wine Country Half in May...I'm hoping to break 2 hours there. If I can get enough running in between now and then...

And look - Joe is getting really good at these two-feet-off-the-ground pictures!

Cruisin'

Joe and I got back from the cruise on Sunday. We did the 7-night cruise down to Mexico with 3 stops. We decided to only get off the ship twice and enjoyed port-special massages. (Side note: if anyone is thinking about trying a hot stone massage - go for it. They are AMAZING!) In Mazatlan, we did a little shopping but the place was kinda ghetto scary. So, we didn't spend too much time off the boat. Just long enough for some margaritas and picking up a Mexican wrestling mask.

Next stop was Puerto Vallarta. This was much nicer and we actually felt comfortable enough to find a little restaurant overlooking the beach up on a second floor. The food there was really great - we both has shrimp dishes. And margaritas were two-for-one! This picture is a little dark, but you get the idea.

As for stuff on the boat, we spent a lot of time sitting around and reading. One other thing we managed to enjoy was... wine tasting! (Yes, even in the middle of the ocean on a cruise, we managed to go wine tasting and enjoy some California wines). Another picture here for you of that:

And last for now, here is one of my favorite pictures we took just of us standing on the balcony of our room in the evening. Check out the sweet necklaces I picked up for us - haggled down to 2 for $6 instead of $4 a piece.

Wedding Day!

The 13th was wedding day, and everything went perfectly. We really enjoyed the ceremony and reception and were so happy that our friends were able to make it out to share the day with us. Especially Joe's sister and family who flew all the way from China! As always, here are a few pictures of the event, with possibly more to come later.

First Bout

On Saturday, our roller derby team had our first bout. It was so much fun and the place was packed - way more people than I expected. While we lost, 61-48, it was a pretty even match and I think our team did really awesome. The best part - I survived in one piece with almost no bruising anywhere my wedding dress will show off! :) Enjoy the pictures and see everyone soon!
The pictures include a picture of the team post-game, me pre-game, getting ready to start a jam, me in the penalty box, and Ivey and my posters that were hung up for the crowd.

Lastly, you can see the article about the game in the local paper here, and a picture of me and Ivey in the middle of a jam: http://www.santamariatimes.com/sports/article_1908ea32-13b9-11df-ace7-001cc4c03286.html

Joe's Hat

I finally finished Joe's hat, so here it is - as promised!
